Referencing Marcel Duchamp’s diary note to resist and turn away from painting, and Man Ray’s object The Enigma of Isidore Ducasse, the series of photographic sculptures that this work began explored the redundancy of photography, whilst signalling a concern to explore the photographic by other means. The work also marks a decision, made in the first year of Masters Study in Photography at the Royal College of Art, to attempt to take no photographs for as long as conceivably possible (something which came to the end following a failed attempt to re-use ID photographs to renew a passport to travel to Chicago at the end of that year, almost 11 months later.
